Sunday, October 16, 2011 (11:12pm) - Indian Ocean
today was india reflection day and a much needed day off of classes. but we did have global studies discussions. thank goodness brew & i are in the last session so we didn't have to be real people until 11am. but we were woken up at like 10:30 this morning by some guy yelling "man overboard, man overboard, man overboard" over the intercom. so brew & i were like "WTF!?!?!" thennn like 10 seconds later... "exercise, man overboard." okay guy, "exercise" is the first word you need to say before you start yelling man overboard. but don't worry, they definitely threw a dummy overboard, then an emergency ring, lowered a life raft, and turned the entire ship around. no big deal or anything. just practice since a student really did fall overboard in 2004... but that's a whole different story. anyways, after discussions we had lunch then went straight back to bed until like 4:30. productive day, i know.
i had family dinner tonight at 6. fun exchanging stories and experiences for a few hours, then i had to go to work at 8. we closed the library today at 9 instead of 11 because tonight was the crew talent show! it was so much fun. it was in the union and literally everybody on the ship was there... students, lifelong learners, faculty, staff... everyone. it was so much fun seeing a side of these people that we see and interact with everyday that we never knew about. like we got to see perry & dante (dining room staff) dancing and jesse (my cabin steward) singing. other acts included vic singing frank sinatra, some of the women from the campus store doing a comedy skit, and my new eyebrow lady angela dancing with edward from the dining hall. it was a lot of fun, and ended with the entire housecleaning staff singing we are the world and everybody in the audience joined it. so much fun!
now i'm procrastinating from doing homework and studying for my last midterm that i have tomorrow. i figured out what the "code blue" was last night. i guess a crew member had a heart attack in the main dining room. but no worries, they're okay and recovering in the hospital on the ship. oh and last night in our delirium, i came up with the idea of a mandatory ship-wide hunger strike to force the us treasury to sign our cuba visa. now i don't know why hunger strikes are ever effective cus it's just like "fine, starve yourself that has no effect on me"... but for some reason they always work. thoughts? i think it's a definite win.
omg and here's a huge revelation i had last night. at this point i'm pretty sure we are no longer sailing away from america, but are instead beginning to sail towards it. crazy, right!? only a few more countries until i get to see the pacific ocean again! it's been so long!
alright, i think that's all i got for now. except for the fact that we have to set our clocks ahead one hour tonight. that'll make it 13.5 hours ahead of the 760, 619, 858, 949 and whoever else is following this. time zones are so weird. well, goodnight.
love love love.
